Pedal 3 is a neuron in Hermissenda.

Drawing of Hermissenda nervous system from T. P. Jerussi and D. L. Alkon. Ocular and extraocular responses of identifiable neurons in pedal ganglia of Hermissenda crassicornis. J.Neurophysiol. 46 (3):659-671, 1981.

Anatomical properties

  • soma size 150-200 microns
  • axons in nerve 1, no central branching seen

Electrophysiological properties

  • resting potential -50mV
  • spike amplitude 55-80 mV
  • basal firing rate= 0.8Hz
  • Responded to light with increased firing
  • baseline and light-induced firing rates are greater for LP3 than for RP3
